The IRS announced that it was using a new format for tax return transcripts to better protect taxpayer’s personal information (IR-2018-171, 8/22/18). Starting September 23, 2018, Get Transcript Online, Get Transcript by Mail, and the Transcript Delivery System for tax professionals will see the changes (including new line 5b on Form 4506-T and Form 4506T-EZ for a 10-digit Customer File Number created by the taxpayer or third parties, such as lenders, needing tax information). The following information will be provided on the new transcript:
There is no change in the process for students seeking income verification through Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), disaster victims seeking FEMA assistance, or businesses looking at their tax transcripts.
A sale of property that allows for tax deferment if at least one payment is received after the end of the tax year in which the sale occurs. The installment method does not apply to year-end sales of publicly traded securities. Dealers may not use the installment method. Investors with very large installment balances could face a special tax.
