Taxpayers owed a refund can check the status of it online. The IRS has made easier than ever to do so for returns filed in 2013. The IRS says that refunds usually will be issued within 21 days and that there is no need to call unless prompted to do so. Delays, however, could result when taxpayers have identity theft issues, inaccurate information, or certain other problems. Returns with a claim for an injured spouse allocation (filed on Form 8379) can take as long as 14 weeks to process.

When to check
Starting in 2013, you can check your refund status after 24 hours from e-filing or 4 weeks after filing a paper return. The tracker will not be available for you before the applicable time period lapses.
